OGM - What's a little potentially pre-cancerous cell growth between friends?

By admin (when...  07/10/2010 @ 16:48:34, Where World, linked 717 times)
Easy experiment: feed rats genetically modified potatoes, observe rats develop potentially pre-cancerous cell growth, smaller brains, livers, and testicles, partially atrophied livers, and damaged immune systems. Write report and inform press.

Result? Scientist is fired.

GM food is safe, move along people, nothing to see here...

The day of the Wiki Leaks - July 31, 2010

By admin (when...  31/07/2010 @ 10:37:08, Where World, linked 737 times)
WikiLeaks FTW, lets hope
The whole WikiLeaks - Afghanistan Report story is becoming more and more like a spy movie that needs a young Robert Redford playing the part of Julian Assange (but they'd probably spice it up with Brad Pitt or Matt Damon). So far WikiLeaks has published war reports running up to 2005, whereas they have material that is much more recent. Clearly the more recent material could be much more dangerous in the wrong hands, and everyone know that: Assange, the CIA, Talibans and the like. One of themost common questions asked Assange about his activities is whether he is worrried for his own safety, a reasonable inquiry seeing that secret services worldwide have a habit of kidnapping and/or executing people they view as dangerous. It looks like Assange has played a master-stroke, by releasing an encrypted file (weighing in at 1.4 GB) on WikiLeaks and a torrent site, named Insurance File.
The implications are clear.

The Big Chill

By admin (when...  10/01/2010 @ 12:17:13, Where World, linked 675 times)

As the Gulf Stream takes a detour towards Greenland the UK gets some snow and a lot of cold. Here's a great photograph ganked from Nasa.

Trafigura

Trafigura takes steaming dump, gags Auntie (SFW) from Bloggerheadsby Manic

This scandal of dumped toxic waste brought down a government, but the Swiss-based multinational Trafigura struggles on in the hope of burying the truth along with the bodies. What a bunch of shameless bastards.

You can help beat Trafigura's gag on the BBC by embedding this Youtube video (1, 2) on your website and linking to this PDF.

Here's why.

If you have a blog, please take the time to do this today with a post of your own. They can't gag us all.

Psssttt..! Fancy some soap?

Fight Club is 10 years old (already) and so this little article caught my eye:

"Four people have been arrested in Peru on suspicion of killing around 60 people to sell their fat on the blackmarket for cosmetic use in Europe, authorities say."

Ganked from The Times.

And if that wasn't enough:

According to Reuters - "MOSCOW - Russian police have arrested three homeless people suspected of eating a 25-year-old man they had butchered and selling other bits of the corpse to a local kebab house."

Ganked from Msnbc.

Chomsky

By admin (when...  13/09/2009 @ 17:30:02, Where World, linked 917 times)

Noam Chomsky
states what should be blindingly obvious, but for some reason most people need to be bludgeoned over the head with the truth. Today's insight is about the militarisation of Latin America. The "drug war"—like the "war on crime" and "the war on terror"—is pursued for reasons other than the announced goals.

It isn't over till the fat lady sneezes

Don't pack away your gas mask yet...

"Concerns about how some countries might react to an official declaration of a full-blown influenza pandemic are preventing the World Health Organisation (WHO) from raising its current alert status to the highest level and admitting that a global flu epidemic is under way."

"Professor Neil Ferguson of Imperial College London said that moving from the current phase five – meaning that a pandemic is imminent – to the final phase six, when a pandemic is in full swing, could result in an over-reaction in some countries."
